Take on the exciting challenge of throwing large, bold pieces on the wheel! This hands-on class will teach you how to work with greater volumes of clay to create impressive forms like tall vases, wide bowls, or statement planters. With expert guidance, you’ll gain the skills and confidence needed to scale up your work while maintaining precision and control.
We’ll cover the delicate art of spiral wedging, an essential technique to prepare larger amounts of clay efficiently, ensuring it’s well-compressed and free of air pockets. You’ll also learn how to center two balls of clay on top of each other, a powerful method for building taller forms with ease.
Other techniques include
Maintaining even walls and controlling wobble
Managing moisture to prevent cracks and collapse
Using slower wheel speeds to support heavier pieces
Students will have the option to return during the week to trim and finish their piece. If you decide to have you work fired, an additional fee of $0.06 per cubic inch will apply, which includes access to our studio glazes.
